world fishing journal

World Fishing Journal just aired an episode entirely about Pike Place Fish. I have watched a lot of shows on the fish market, and this one is much different. It is filmed documentary style and has in-home interviews with Johnny, the owner of PPF and Jim, their coach. It also features Anders and a few of the other guys. I really liked it and felt like it captured the spirit of the place and gave a cool look at the history. Johnny shows a lot of old pictures and talks about why he bought it. Check it out!

93

The rest of Seattle might be overheating during this unbearable heat wave, but our friends lent us their portable air conditioner and we are doing just fine.

for the bears

Most people don't know that the fish the guys use to throw around at the market is actually "stunt fish." The flying fish get so beat up they can't actually sell it to customers. Instead of just throwing it away, the shop donates all the fish to the Woodland Park Zoo to feed the bears and to Wolf Haven to feed wolves.

Once a year, the guys get invited to the zoo to throw the fish to the bears! Here are few cell phone pictures from the day.

The Seattle Times posted a slideshow of professional photos from the day, which you can see here.

you've been warned

This week, Anders (nickname: Lard) discovered that his favorite raspberry soy marinade is going to be discontinued. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I woke up this morning to discover this...

Apparently he is protecting the last of his inventory.

calendar

The Pike Place Fish 2015 calendar is now for sale (remember this post from the photoshoot)! Anders is actually the month of March in case you were wondering. You can order a copy of it here, and the guys will even autograph it for you! This is their first ever calendar, so we are a bit excited over here.

happy monday!

Happy Monday everyone!
Hope your Mother's Day weekend was so fantastic that it resulted in headstands in your neighborhood park. And even if there wasn't headstands, I hope there was cake. We had both.

it was time

That time when Anders went from a mountain man to a respectable mountain man.
Thanks, Jess!

long hair, don't care

And now a picture to demonstrate the impressiveness that is Anders' beard.
He really should win an award for that thing.

happy birthday to this guy!

An outstanding human being he is indeed.

Happy Birthday, Anders!

more media

Anders got up early yesterday to do an interview with Kiley & Booms from CBS Cleveland. Check out his interview here (scroll down until you see the 8:45 Anders Miller segment)!

Seahawks posts on this blog should be winding down soon. Tomorrow is a big game. If we win we are going to the Superbowl! I'm freaking out. So nervous. Wish us luck!

one more interview

I posted a few stories about the Seahawks and the fish guys on Saturday, but I forgot to include the most important one! King 5 news' meteorologist, Mary Lee, interviewed Anders about the Seahawks, the weather and, of course, fish!

Check it out here!

google glass

Anders got to try out the new Google Glass...those crazy glasses that take pictures and videos by talking or winking or tilting your head or some such nonsense. I don't really know.
Check out what it's like to be Anders!

and so it begins

Today marks the start of Anders' crazy Christmas schedule. He will be working 12 hour days (sometimes longer, mostly longer) for 15 days straight until Christmas Day. Then, he'll go back to work the next day until New Years. It's nuts. However, if he has to work that kind of schedule, I'm glad it's at that crazy fun place because they have all kinds of good times down there. Wish him luck!

(and go Seahawks)

fun with photoshop

My super funny and talented friend, Nick, sent me this picture of Anders with his thumb reattached (see original photo here). Ha. If only Photoshop really worked that well!

weekend

Weekend Recap: I painted our new construction a whoooooole lot, Anders severed his finger at work and had to have it reattached in the ER with 6 stitches (don't ask), the Seahawks managed to pull out a totally crappy win (we'll take it), and we got a new dining room table (WOO! Pictures of the house construction forthcoming). All in all, a totally productive yet slightly crazy with a dose of anxiety weekend. Hope you all had a fantastic weekend too and no fingers were hurt in the process.

ballard seafood fest

The Pike Place Fish guys were at the Ballard Seafood Fest last weekend slinging cookbooks. Naturally I tagged along because I don't miss a good street fair opportunity. I "helped" at the booth but also found time to take pictures, play with the pups at the booth next to us, eat a scallop burrito, drink wine and listen to live music. Success!

(the booth next to us was for a pet store. They had a kiddie pool filled with water for the hot pups. It was better than people watching)

fish tips

(pictures by Morgan Keuler for the cookbook)

Happy Friday!
I have a cool interview to share with you today. Anders was interviewed by Epicurious and then featured in the Huffington Post in their Taste section. In the interview he gives lots of fish tips from how to know if it's fresh to how to store it once you have it home. Check it out! I'm really proud of him!

shrubbery

In which Anders cuts our laurel in the rain while I take pictures instead of help and he doesn't get mad.
I love him!
