A few cell phone snapshots of Halloween at the fish market with the cutest little lobster I ever did see.

pumpkin party

Halloween is in just a few days, so Anders and I invited our friends over to get our carve on! We kept the whole evening in theme and served pumpkin pasta for dinner and pumpkin martinis for dessert. We are officially ready for the holiday.

In costume? or just a nerd?

Laura gets serious about her carving. Breaking out the drill!

Maggie doesn't care about carving, she just wants the pumpkin seeds.

scenes from the south

We actually got back from our roadtrip last Monday, but this week has been crazy getting back into the swing of things. We had a great time, though! Boy did we eat A LOT. Fried chicken in Nashville, BBQ in Memphis, shrimp po'boys in Gulf Shores and beignets in New Orleans (to name a very small sample). We are stuffed! Anders and I are in full detox mode this week. No joke. The food was outstanding, the weather was perfect, and it was a much needed relaxing getaway.

Sorry for all the pictures!

We found a VW bus that serves hot dogs while in Nashville

My parents came down to Nashville for a visit too. Good thing they like hot dogs.

Coffee at the Barista Parlor in E. Nashville. So cool!

Loveless is delicious. Best biscuits in TN just outside of Nashville.

Made it to Memphis, and Beale Street (naturally)

 Memphis BBQ!

We also visited Elvis' home, Graceland, because 50 million fans can't be wrong.

I thought the cotton fields all the way south were so cool.

When we got to Clarksdale, MS (birthplace of the Blues!), we stayed in a shack with a cat. Highly recommended if you like adventures.

Morgan Freeman owns a Blues Club in Clarksdale called Ground Zero. It was closed, but we took pictures outside.

This cute little restaurant makes the best tomato sandwiches. It's just outside of Vicksburg, MS. A must stop if you are passing through.

Next, we rolled into Gulf Shores to go to the annual shrimp festival. We actually skipped the shrimp and tried fried grouper, which was great!

Outside the Pink Pony Pub, a beachside bar

We also played shuffleboard at this amazing dive bar on the Florida/Alabama border.

And last but not least, New Orleans. We had to go to Bourbon. It was Anders' first time!

Beignets at the Cafe Du Monde (and their frozen coffee is even better!)

Never drink green drinks.

Such a fun trip, you guys! Below is a list of my favorites:

Swett's - Nashville (get the fried chicken and banana pudding)
Loveless Cafe - just outside of Nashville
Shack up Inn - Clarksdale, MS
Abe's BBQ - Clarksdale, MS
The Tomato Place - Vicksburg, MS
Dooky Chase - New Orleans
Jaque-Imos - New Orleans
The Old Coffee Pot - New Orleans

mississippi delta

Road trip! Anders and I leave tomorrow for a little Mississippi Delta road trip, and we are so excited. We have a list of restaurants to check out as well as Graceland (I mean, 50 million fans can't be wrong). Our itinerary starts in Nashville then on to Memphis then to Clarksdale (we are staying at this crazy hotel) then to Vicksburg then to Gulf Shores, AL (by way of Hattiesburg) for the Shrimp Festival and finally finishing up in New Orleans. We have quite a few recommendations from people, but please, send more if you know them! Some of the places on our list include:

The Loveless Cafe, just outside of Nashville
Rendezvous for BBQ in Memphis
Hazel's Nook for breakfast in Gulf Shores
Liuzza's by the Track for Po Boys in New Orleans
Pat O'Brians for the original hurricane drink (also in New Orleans)

And so many more! Seriously, my list is huge. Full report coming soon.
