thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! We spent out Thanksgiving with good friends and good food. Every year this group manages to successfully deep fry four turkeys as well as tempura (because you can never have too much deep fried anything) and serve it up along delicious sides and homemade pies. It was such a fun day. I am definitely thankful for this group of friends and for always being able to afford and feast of this magnitude. We are all truly fortunate.

My one regret is that I didn't get a group picture. I was too full to make it happen, so unfortunately not everyone is represented. Here are a few pictures from the day, though!

thanksgiving

Anders and I spent the holiday with my childhood best friend and her husband. It was a great holiday indeed. I was too busy having fun to take too many picture, but here are a few shots including the obligatory before and after of the bird. Happy Thanksgiving!

outstanding in the field

Anders and I were lucky enough to attend a huge dinner at our friend's oyster farm put on by Outstanding in the Field. The crew from OITF travel all around the country putting on dinners on farms that reconnect the diner with the farmer. They have been doing these events for the last 15 years, and it is quite a site to see. We had a great time eating delicious oysters from the farm but also local sockeye salmon, squash blossom salad, grape gazpacho and almond cake for dessert. And while the night was a complete home run, there was one funny incident. The dinner table was set up on the beach, but the crew misjudged high tide (how fast it would come in and how high), and by the time the first course was served, my chair was underwater. The tables had to be moved to higher and dryer land, but it was a  pretty hilarious adventure. Luckily, everyone was a good sport. It's a good thing we moved too because less than an hour after we moved the tide was so high our tables would have floated away. In fact, a boy cruised by on a boat...right where we had been sitting!

If you ever get a chance to attend one of these dinners, I highly recommend it. Check out the complete tour here.

This is not a great picture, but I wanted to point out how far away the tide was to begin.

 Squash blossom salad

 Grape gazpacho

The tide rolled in quickly! Literally all within 10 minutes!

Table sinking with Kevin, the owner of the oyster farm

 High-ho, high-ho

Luckily our chef, Zoi, was always on dry land.

 Treasure Cove oysters

 (there was wine too)

Chef Zoi is my hero. This dish was perfect.

 Almond cake for dessert.

champions

Well, the Seattle Seahawks managed to win the Super Bowl and bring home the Lombardi trophy. We are so excited! Beyond excited! This is our first win in franchise history. I admit, I haven't been a Seahawks fan my whole life, but I haven't missed a game since I moved here 8 years ago, and I think that counts as being a super fan. I mean, we even set an alarm for 3am when we were in Milan a few years ago to see the Seahawks beat the Green Packers with a simultaneous catch in the end zone. Okay, full disclosure, I fell asleep after the first quarter, but still! We are huge fans! We couldn't be happier for our team and the city. And we get to be champions for the ENTIRE YEAR. Go Seahawks!

Here are a few pictures from our Super Bowl party.
