moves like jagger

When one finds themselves in LA
in a rather large loft
with expansive hard wood floors
there really is only one thing to do...

My husband is hilarious.

la weekend

We had a great weekend in LA! I think it’s important to mention that I have been to LA four times and have managed to see a celebrity every single time. Past celebrity sightings have included: Matthew Mcconaughey, Penelope Cruz, Bridget Neilson, David Arquette and Nick Lachey. Not to be let down, Anders managed to spot Dave Grohl (lead singer of the Foo Fighters and former drummer of Nirvana) eating sushi at Katsu-ya. He was wearing flannel, and I was stoked. Here are some other highlights from our trip!

We visited Grand Central Market in downtown, which is Los Angeles' answer to the Pike Place Market.

We made a stop at Magnolia Bakery in Beverly Hills to try their famous banana cream pudding. It was definitely good enough to be famous.

We rode the ferris wheel in Santa Monica...

...and visited the Rose Bowl (both the flee market and the stadium!)

This hat was a purchase from the flee market!

We stayed at a friend's apartment and our buddy, Ryan, was coming to stay the day we left. It also happened to be his birthday, so we decorated the place for him!

We also rode bikes!

But the best part of the weekend was driving around in this convertible. We cruised all around the city and even stumbled across the Hollywood sign! This was even better than the Dave Grohl sighting.

to my mom

Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms out there, but an especially happy one to my Mom! I give her an A++ as far as being a Mom goes. She's kinda the best.

Thanks for letting me take Irish step dancing lessons when I decided I wanted to be in Riverdance. Sorry I never made it. And thanks for visiting me in Seattle even though you hate to fly. And thanks for giving me sewing lessons over the phone even though I'm kinda a slow learner. Thanks for paying for me to take bowling in college. I promise I learned a lot. Oh, and thanks also for paying for braces. I probably complained at the time, but I promise I'm thankful now. And thanks for forgiving me for that one time I painted my sisters and cousin instead of the wall. And thanks for killing that cockroach for me in the hotel room that one time (okay maybe just a few months ago, but I was scared!). Thanks for being the best Mom ever!

I love you!

catching flies

Anders and I are headed to L.A. this weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday (my birthday isn't until the following week, but I like to get a lot of mileage out of my day especially since it's a biiiiig one.) However, I didn't want to leave town without sharing some very valuable tips for getting rid of pesky house flies. Here are two solutions that work for us.

1. Get yourself a venus flytrap. I swear they work!

2. And/or get yourself a lean, mean, fly eating machine named Maggie.

She is awesome. And weird.

in a pickle

Just another Monday night...making pickles...and pickled carrots...and pickled onions.

Which led us to wonder...why are pickled cucumbers called "pickles" but all other vegetables are simply just a pickled vegetable?

It's one of life's greatest mysteries.

the rodeo

It was so nice and so sunny this past Sunday in Seattle, so Anders and I decided to spend the day at the rodeo....the food truck rodeo that is! We headed to Freemont where a whole fleet of food trucks from Seattle and Portland got together to serve up delicious grub. After scouting the whole scene, we decided on coconut shrimp pizza from Veraci Pizza, a beef slider from Happy Grillmore and a torta from Barriga Llena. We followed up the whole experience with vegan and gluten free treats and coffee at Flying Apron because, you know, we're kinda health nuts :) A very delicious Sunday it turned out to be.

bath time

I would assume most days Maggie thinks she has won the dog lottery.

Except on bath days.
