see ya

Sorry it has been a bit quiet on the blog this week. It has been kind of an obnoxious week. We are still under construction, which means our kitchen is totally torn up and a mess, and we are forced to do dishes in the bathtub. Sigh. I'm taking a break from it all and heading to Daytona, FL to meet up with family for a week at the beach. My family has been traveling to the same resort every year since I was a kid, which is just sort of a funny thing. Pick any time of the day, and I can tell you what we will be doing! 8am...donuts and coffee. noon...burgers from the food truck. 1pm...most likely a volleyball game followed by an immediate cool down in the pool. 7pm dinner on some outdoor patio with a guy playing Jimmy Buffet cover songs. Repeat for 7 days and you've got yourself a Florida vacation. It's a very predictable trip, and it's glorious! See you soon!

a house that makes me happy

Stumbled across this AMAZING house in W. Seattle the other day. It is covered from head to toe in flowers. Do you think they'll let me move in?
I'm in love.

I can't decide if it's really sad that it is surrounded by big, modern condos or if it just makes it that much cooler. I love the shot of personality and hope they never sell!

Hope you all have a colorful Monday!

happy anniversary

Today is our 4 year wedding anniversary! It's so fun being married. I love that I always have someone to hang out with...especially when that someone is always willing to play along when I make him take photobooth pictures or spin on his back or jump just for fun or harass our dog together or dress ridiculous. I'm so lucky!

If you need us we'll be celebrating with anchovy pasta at How to Cook a Wolf.

ballard seafood fest

The Pike Place Fish guys were at the Ballard Seafood Fest last weekend slinging cookbooks. Naturally I tagged along because I don't miss a good street fair opportunity. I "helped" at the booth but also found time to take pictures, play with the pups at the booth next to us, eat a scallop burrito, drink wine and listen to live music. Success!

(the booth next to us was for a pet store. They had a kiddie pool filled with water for the hot pups. It was better than people watching)

down one wall!

Our contractors busted through our kitchen wall the other day! Eep! It's crazy how much more space we are going to have. It's not even close to being finished and it already feels so good. I'm liking this project more and more.

We are testing out a new wall color too.

It's not every day you get to sit in the middle of  a wall!

a walk in the woods

Anders and I took Maggie to my favorite secret spot in Seattle last weekend. It's a wooded area that's totally hidden and hard to find. I don't think many people know about it because we rarely see anyone back there. We can let Maggie off her leash, and she is seriously the happiest dog on the planet while we are there. Anders and I are pretty happy too because it's a total escape from the city without actually leaving the city. I would tell you where it is, but, well, then it wouldn't be our secret anymore would it?

And while this was a super fun part of my day, I have to show this photo below to prove that life isn't always so picture perfect...

See that brown stripe down Maggie's side? That would be where Anders spilled coffee on her. HA!

absolutely totally amazing

Um...what are you guys doing on Thursday? You might need to cancel whatever plans you have after I show you this amazing trailer. I am not ashamed to admit that Anders and I have our DVR set already because movies like this just don't come around that often.
Brace yourself. This is a real thing.

Hilarious and amazing, right? I'm so watching this.

Happy Monday to you all!

proud to be from u2o!

Our friends, Pat and Laura, came over on the 4th and we attempted to take pictures with sparklers. The point was to spell out USA, but, well...

U2O?!?!

That's a little better...

This was sort of a last minute idea, and we ran out of sparklers before we could really perfect the shot. We'll get em' next year! It was so fun, though. U2O had me literally on the floor laughing. Ha!

two reasons to celebrate

It may be the 4th of July, but it's also my Dad's 60th (!!) birthday! Happy birthday, old man. You rock cowboy boots with a suit better than anyone. Love you!
(this picture reminded me of a hilarious tumblr...Dads are the original hipsters. Ha!)

Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July. We are celebrating by grilling out and relaxing.

sunday funday

Just a few random pictures from our Sunday. It was a hot one! We spent the morning at the Fremont Sunday Market and then the Ballard Farmer's Market, but then we went home before the afternoon sun hit and took naps underneath a fan. Seattlites aren't used to these super hot temperatures (I heard it hit 90!) and very few people have air conditioning. This is not me complaining, though.

The hottest dog that ever did live. She won't sleep anywhere but the cool floor these days.

We got these crazy traditional (?) Japanese waffles in Fremont that are shaped like fish and come filled with all kinds of stuff. Ours had bacon and cheese because, duh.

Water and shade!

Anders and I wait all year for garlic scapes!

Cherry season is here

Rainbow chard

Hot days make us think of cold beer, so we made homemade beer (using this kit my Mom bought us for Christmas a while ago). We can't wait to see how it comes out (the whole process take a few weeks to a month).

Happy 4th of July week to you all. Hooray for short work weeks!
